Drinks of The Past part 3

        This is the third part of my drink recipe posts from the past at Walt Disney World.  Here you can find Part 1 and Part 2.  These recipes are from the Cooking Around Our World  cookbook from 1986.
 
        Not all of the beverages in this cookbook contain alcohol.  For example, the Tavern Lemon Sherbet Punch is from the Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom, which of course does not serve alcohol.  The drink includes lemon juice, lemon sherbet, club soda, and strawberries. Blend with ice and enjoy.

         A lot of the places where these drinks were served are either not in existence, or operate under a different name.  The Coconino Cove was an oyster bar located at the far southern end of the Grand Canyon Concourse in the Contemporary Resort.  The sprawling Chef Mickey's now occupies the space where it was located.  Chef Mickey's also swallowed up the Contemporary Cafe, as well as the Pueblo Room.

     There seemed to be many more places to eat and drink in the original hotels before the massive expansion of hotel rooms on property beginning in the eighties.  Which led to many of the small establishments closing as demand was spread around property.
   
     I hope some of these drink recipes will take the heat out of the summer, and make lounging on the patio a lot more enjoyable.  While, of course, dreaming of Walt Disney World of yesteryear. The next part in my recipe series will start to focus on the appetizers served in the restaurants around Walt Disney World.  Enjoy!

Drinks of the Past

             Here is round two of my WDW recipes of the past posts.  I am working through beverages to start off.  I have also included a brief history on the places these drinks were served for your reading enjoyment.

   

        The Disney Inn, formerly known as the Golf Resort.  These cocktails could be found at the Garden Gallery which was the American fare dining establishment there.  Which if I am not mistaken replaced the Trophy Room at the Golf Resort.  Now the resort is called The Shades of Green, and is exclusive to military personnel.

         The Polynesian Village was home to many original cocktails back then.  Even now you can find multiple different concoctions that are not found anywhere else on property.  There were many different areas to enjoy a libation at the Polynesian Village before the many renovations that occurred in the Great Ceremonial House and around the property. Now you've got the Tambu Lounge.

         The Top of The World lounge at the Contemporary Resort Hotel was a great place to enjoy an adult beverage and watch the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom.  I am not exactly sure where in relation to the stage at the Top of The World Supper club the lounge was located.  So I am not sure if you could watch the live entertainment or not.  I am sure you could have a listen though.  Here is a fabulous post on the Contemporary as it used to be.

       The Rose and Crown Pub at EPCOT Center is a great place to enjoy a pint of ale or an interesting cocktail.  It seems that back then lemon bar mix was used in many a cocktail around WDW property.  EPCOT Center was the only Disney theme park to allow alcohol consumption at the time it opened, and for a while after.  So World Showcase was the place to be to enjoy enhanced beverages while taking in the culture around you.  As far as I know when the park opened management was trying to keep the alcoholic beverages off of the promenade, to keep the drinking to specific areas in the park.  Unlike nowadays, where you can buy your beverage from a cart and saunter around without a care in the world.  Which I have been known to do from time to time.

Drinking on Top of The World

    Here is a couple recipes for drinks that were able to be purchased at the Top of The World lounge which was located at the Contemporary Resort.  These recipes are found in this Walt Disney World cookbook that was published in 1986.  


       There were a few monorail drinks that were very popular among guests.  Multiple combinations of  juices and different liquors were available as the different monorail colors.  For example; the monorail pink has gin as the liquor mixed with various juices, syrups, and also included heavy whipping cream.  Monorail red includes tequila, and monorail yellow has rum.  These are all blended drinks as well. Try them at home and let me know what you think!  And let me know what other recipes you would like to see.  Just remember that these are from the 70's and 80's  so you are not going to find anything from Fulton's Crab House because it was the Empress Lilly back then.  Thanks for reading!

Contemporary Cinema Ticket

    I used to love taking the monorail over to the Contemporary to see a movie.  Our family used to stay in the Polynesian most trips and even as young as 8 my brother and I used to be able to go to the Contemporary by ourselves to play video games and catch a movie.
